CRCT: Nearly 50% of Muscogee Co. 8th graders did not pass

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - The Criterion-Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) results released this month show Georgia students are improving in 23 of the 30 content areas.

Results also show an overwhelming percentage of test takers are not meeting the standard.

In Muscogee County, 48% of eighth graders are not meeting the standard in science.  Less than a third of the same group are not meeting the standard for math in Muscogee County.

Clay County: 86%
Stewart County: 80%
Quitman County: 79%
Baker County: 78%
Talbot County: 74%

Out of 180 schools systems tested in Georgia, the three counties recording the lowest results for 8th grade science are Clay, Stewart and Quitman counties. 86% of Clay County 8th graders did not pass the science portion. Stewart County and Quitman County followed at 80% and 79%.

This year, there were improvements for the entire state. 78% of all eighth graders passed – which is a 4% increase from last year.

Eighth graders are required to meet expectations on all portions of the test. If the standard is not met, they will have to go summer school.
