Fort Benning to host U.S. Army armor school change of command

FORT BENNING, GA -  Col. Thomas S. James will assume command of the U.S. Army Armor School from Brig. Gen. Ted Martin at a change of command ceremony scheduled for 4 p.m. June 28 at the Benning Conference Center. 

James is a graduate of the Citadel in Charleston S.C. where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1985.  He was commissioned as an Army second  ieutenant upon his graduation.

He holds a master's degree in Military Arts and Science from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and a master's degree in National Security Strategy from the National  efense University. 

James is also a graduate of the Infantry Officer Advanced Course at Fort Benning.

He has served in armor units in Germany and southwest Asia and is a veteran of operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom.

His most recent assignment was as the assistant division commander for maneuver, 3rd Infantry Division, at Fort Stewart, Ga.  Martin has been reassigned to his alma mater, the U.S.  Military Academy at West Point, where he will serve as the next commandant of cadets.
