COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Mayor Teresa Tomlinson says a comprehensive waste plan is being worked on right now and she hopes to have it set in place by the fall.
Part of that plan will include going to one day a week garbage pick-up.
That extra money will be used as the city prepares to close the landfill and buy more trash trucks.
"I think we can get money from our infrastructure lost funds, other revenues that we can set aside for those purposes and not raise our garbage fee because that is important to citizens and me at the same time we know we can save a couple $100,000 by going to one day a week," says Tomlinson.
Mayor Tomlinson also mentioned that part of that comprehensive waste plan is to look at capturing methane gas to sell it.
