COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) – A Columbus teenager has bonded out of jail after being charged with vehicular homicide following an accident.
Jack Hughes, 17, is accused of killing 39-year-old Sergeant Jerome Owens when their vehicles collided.
Owens was stationed at Fort Benning and had received 21 awards during his military career.
The accident happened at University Avenue and Macon Road early Monday morning.
The Columbus Police report shows Hughes ran a red light traveling North on Macon Road. Owens was turning left onto Macon Road from Elm Drive when Hughes Ford F-150 struck his Nissan Altima.
Hughes also allegedly had drugs in the car at the time of the crash.
