HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - Four years ago, a Harris County couple was months from having their dream home in the Steele Creek subdivision complete. They say that dream came crashing down with calls from sub-contractors about unpaid labor materials.

The couple, who want to keep their identities hidden, reached out to their contractor, 40-year-old Michael Moore, the owner and operator of South East Construction Services in Columbus.  He told them that everything would be okay, but then their calls went unanswered.

The couple tells us they later found out that five liens had been placed on their house from a number of different companies totaling over $50,000.

The victims then advised by their attorney and contacted the Harris County Sheriff's Office. A full investigation was launched and as a result, enough evidence was discovered to take the case to court.

"The contractor had been taking the draws apparently, and doing something other than paying for the building materials and sub-contractors labor," investigator Glenn Presley said.

The sheriff's office arrested Michael Moore Tuesday. He's charged with five counts of theft by conversion.

Investigators say that during their investigation they found other victims with similar problems.
