LAGRANGE GA (WTVM) - LaGrange Police have made an arrest in the death of a man they say was shot by his own son Saturday night.
For the second weekend in a row, LaGrange Police are investigating a murder and for the second time in a row the suspect is related to the victim.
A 911 call was received around 8:30 a.m. Saturday night for a man who had been shot at his home on Timothy Street. When police arrived they found 39-year-old Leonard Davis suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the West Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
During their investigation, police discovered that the shooting occurred during a fight Davis was having with his son, Deremy Davis. Family members say the fight started over drugs.
Joyce Davis Tucker, the mother of Leonard Davis and grandmother of Deremy Davis, told News Leader 9, "He went into the room where Leonard was and struck Leonard up side the jaw. Leonard said "Deremy, I think you broke my jaw". He struck Leonard again and I pulled him off Leonard and he went into the room and came back with a gun and he told me he was tired of me taking up for him and he shot Leonard. He kept shouting "Grandma help me! Grandma help me!I said, 'Deremy I cannot help you.'"
With her son dead and her grandson facing murder charges, Joyce Davis Tucker says the pain is almost too much to handle, "It is destroying us. It just about has gotten me down. I'm hoping and trusting in God that we'll be able to work through this."
Davis, 21, turned himself in to the Troup County Sheriff's Office late Sunday afternoon and was charged with murder.
