Powell Steps Down at Hardaway; Gilstrap New Baseball Coach

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Long-time Hardaway baseball coach Tracy Powell has stepped down to accept a teaching and assistant coaching position at Harris County High School.

Powell was 341-140 in 17 seasons at Hardaway, leading the Hawks to five region titles. They had even better success in the playoffs, with seven appearances in the state quarterfinals, five in the state semifinals, and state runner-up finishes in 1996 and 1997.

Current Hardaway softball coach Chris Gilstrap takes over the head coaching reins. Gilstrap played baseball for Powell and was on the two state runner-up squads.

Gilstrap will also remain as the softball coach.
