COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Comedian D.L. Hughley made a stop in Fort Benning Friday night. It's all part of a national tour at military communities. Hughley told us tonight that he wanted to do something special for the troops who put their lives on the line for our freedom.

"I've never seen a more beautiful thing than people laughing so hopefully we will be able to accomplish that tonight,' Hughley said.

The free show is taking place at the Benning super club. Madelyn Powell is there tonight with her husband who has served in the military for a number of years.

"We are glad he is here and we want him to come back again and other people to come to Fort Benning because Fort Benning is a great place to be," Powell said.

Hughley says the tour has been very inspiring and he's happy to put a smile on soldier's faces.

"You ever told a joke and then you've had people say oh if you were there you will laugh the gig is to get them there," Hughley said.

Hughley has about 400 people to take with him on his journey of laughter. Retired Fort Benning solider Chris Beckford and his wife will be along for the ride.

"The soldiers they are always deployed and it's a way of giving back to the soldiers," Chris Beckford said.
