AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – An Auburn police officer shot a suspect during a traffic stop and saved a woman from her very own family member after he had kidnapped and threatened her life.

Investigators say 28-year-old Brian McGlynn became distraught after an altercation with his female relative near the Waffle House in Opelika and holding a knife to her throat and ordered her to drive into Auburn.

An officer was able to get the vehicle stopped on Glenn Avenue. As the officer approached the vehicle he saw McGlynn in the back seat with his arms around the neck of the driver and holding a knife.

McGlynn ordered the victim to drive off, but when she did the officer shot him in the left arm.  He was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center but has since been released into custody.

McGlynn is being held on a $55,000 bond and if charged he could face life in prison.
