7-on-7 Camp wraps up in LaGrange

LaGrange (WXTX) - Football players from Lanett, Auburn, Manchester, Heard County, and LaGrange High Schools participated in 7-on-7 camp this week, as part of the NFL's Player Development Program.

The camp is sponsored by the NFL and the National Guard, to not only teach football but to teach character.

"The NFL put together a program where we want to develop both sides of the athlete and with this camp we want to develop the character first" said NFL Veteran and LaGrange coach Dialleo Burks. "We have different speakers that come out throughout the day and talk to the guys about their jobs and how they made it and what it takes to just succeed in the world."

Marcus Pollard, Walt Harris, and Wesley Woodyard and other NFL players from the area came out to speak to the boys about their football and life experiences hoping to inspire our next local football star.

"That's special for them to take their time and to come out here and teach us what they know," said Heard County Senior Tyler Winn. "They're the best of the best and that's everybody's, every high school players, dream is to make it to the next level and for them to come out here and actually teach us and show us what they did and show us how to do it right and get better, get faster, get quicker, that takes a lot for them to come out here and do it and everybody should appreciate that."

The players aren't the only ones who enjoy it. Pollard, who is now coaching at Lanett High School wants to share his 14 year NFL experience with the next generation from the Valley.

"It's important to me because when we were coming up years ago, we never had an opportunity where you could physically touch an NFL player, someone who actually made it to the pinnacle of the sport we're out here doing today," Pollard said. "For me it's so important to give back for those reasons so that kids can see me, be tangible know that we're real and we do come from small towns, we do football camps and that we're just real people. Just to give back some of the knowledge that I've soaked up over the years."

Burks and Pollard hope to continue 7-on-7 camps like this one in future summers.
