QUITMAN COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - Quitman County Sheriff deputies along with members of the special task force teamed up to shut down an illegal gambling operation in Georgetown, Georgia on Highway 82.

"When we went in there were six people five playing slot machines and video machines. We are executing a search warrant as a result of our undercover investigation," said Steve Newton with Quitman County Sheriff's office.

Sheriff Deputies arrested Theresa Davis and Kimberly Johnson for Commercial Gambling and Keeping a Gambling Place. Monica Ivory was also arrested and charged with gambling.

Eight game machines were taken from the location. Deputies collected about $3,000 from those machines. The game room had only been open for a couple of hours. Sheriff Newton says that these types of operations usually make about $10,000 a week from illegal game machines.

He is hoping that Georgia law makers do something to make gambling clear.

"The legislature really needs to go back and revisit the commercial gambling laws and make it clear what types of machines are illegal and make it a little easier for the law enforcement to enforce it," Newton said.

This raid shuts down one of two known game rooms in the county. Sheriff Newton tells News Leader 9 it is a growing problem in rural areas like Georgetown that he  and his team refuse to tolerate.
