COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Fabian Henderson will now spend the next 30 years in prison for the 2010 Halloween murder of 19-year-old Daquarn Character.

When Fabian Henderson was arrested in November, he admitted to police that he shot and killed Daquarn Character. Just last week, he denied ever admitting to that crime, and Monday he changed his story again and entered a plea of guilty.

Fabian Henderson was facing life in prison without the possibility of parole for the Halloween 2010 murder of Daquarn Character, but after negotiations that charge was lessened.

The District Attorney's office worked with the victim's mother, Tammy Long, who agreed with the sentence.

His attorney, Stacey Jackson said, "It was our contention, after being faced with all the facts, that this was a voluntary manslaughter case versus a murder case."

So Henderson plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter, placing him in prison for up to 35 years.

Stacey Jackson says even if the case did go to trial, they would have been facing an up-hill battle, "My client did give a confession after he was arrested, accepting responsibility for the shooting. He did, also in his statement, lead police to finding the gun."

And although Jackson says Henderson is willing to pay the time, "He's accepting of this negotiated plea and he's happy with it."

Henderson will be eligible for parole in less than 20 years.
