Columbus soldier killed in insurgent attack

(WXTX) - The Department of Defense tells News Leader 9 a solder was killed while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Private 1st Class Brice M. Scott, 22, of Columbus, GA, died July 31 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, from injuries he suffered when insurgents attacked his unit.  

He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kanas.

He joined the Army in March 2010 as a cavalry scout. This was his first deployment. He deployed to Afghanistan with 4-4 Cavalry in February 2011.

Scott is survived by his wife and one child.
