Motorcycle rider gets a hearty send off on '4-Paws USA Tour'

By Roslyn Giles

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)-  Longtime motorcycle rider and animal lover Rad Delaroderie hit the road Wednesday for an 8000-mile trek to the four corners of the country.  Delaroderie is hoping to raise money and awareness for Paws Humane, a no kill, non profit organization.

He came up with the idea and approached Paws Humane's executive director. "It was a combination of two things that have always been very important to me. I've always been a friend of animals in need. I've always been a life long motorcyclist, put the two together and somehow go out and ride across the country."

Delaroderie will visit humane shelters in 34 states over 17 days with a message he hopes will turn into a nationwide effort to keep pets alive.

Even though it's a solo tour, the biker isn't alone.  A stuffed companion is also going along for the ride.  Paw Paw is riding strapped to the backseat.

Staff from Paws Humane lined the parking lot waving bye-bye as Delaroderie took off with the intention of traveling 600 miles today.

The route includes Florida, Maine, Washington State and California.
