DOJ: 5 people plead guilty to health insurance fraud

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Department of Justice tells News Leader 9 that five defendants have pleaded guilty to health insurance fraud.

Dontavius Dowdell age 29, Columbus, GA
Derrick Jones, age 43, Columbus, GA 
Steven Lester, age 28, Marietta, GA
Camille Toney, age 23, Phenix City, AL
Ronnie Moore, age 47, Columbus, GA 

Twenty-nine-year-old Rayburn Wilson, of Columbus, GA has not entered a guilty plea.

Investigators say all six individuals submitted false claims to their AFLAC supplemental insurance policies.

We are told they fraudulently collected funds ranging from $243  to  $67,000.

AFLAC's losses totaled more than $500,000.

AFLAC provides supplemental insurance to policyholders who are ill and injured.

Each person faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

They are expected to be sentenced December 8, 2011.
