Man killed in Columbus, suspect turns self in

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) -  A suspect identified in a Columbus murder has turned himself in.

Dewayne Williams, 30, faces charges of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon.

Investigators say Williams killed Keyonna Chapple on Monday around 4:45 a.m. on Fisk Avenue, near Morehouse Street.  The victim was alive when EMS arrived.  Muscogee County Coroner Bill Thrower tells News Leader 9 he was pronounced dead later at the Medical Center.

Williams also faces an additional charge - theft by receiving stolen property.

When Williams turned himself over to authorities he had a pistol in his possession. We are told the gun will be submitted for testing to see if it is the murder weapon.

Authorities have not determined a motive at this time. Williams is scheduled to appear in Recorder's Court Wednesday at 8:00 a.m.
