COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - It was a smile and good attitude that attracted this woman to 56 year old Johnny Womack.

She did not want her face shown on camera because of bruises she suffered after being severely beaten. She says she wish they would have never met.

"I pray and I thank God that I'm here today because when I was told I was going to be dead that night, Monday evening, it just hurts, it really does."

Quitman county investigators say Womack attacked and kidnapped his girlfriend on Monday evening. She says Womack held her in a hotel room in Eufaula and after he drank himself to sleep she got away.

"When he finally laid on that floor and went to sleep, that is when I got out of there and I didn't care what I brought with me I took my keys and got in  the vehicle and left."

"It just escalated from, boyfriend being mad at girlfriend and he went too far and he felt like he couldn't go back so he just kept going farther and farther."

Law enforcement from both sides of the Chattahoochee River have gotten involved with the search for Womack. Two agencies are now working together to put one man behind bars.
