COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A Columbus man has been arrested for stealing more than a thousand dollars worth of copper wiring from the Muscogee County School District.
Tracy McMillan was arrested Monday at ABC Metals shortly before he was going to sell more than 100 feet of industrial wiring stolen from the school district's bus barn on Whitesville Road this weekend, police say.
After being taken into custody, officers matched the wiring in McMillan's vehicle to missing wiring at the school district facility.
He is facing a felony charge of theft by taking and a criminal trespassing charge, as well as a charge of possession of tools for use during the commission of a crime.
McMillan has a recorder's court hearing on Tuesday.
Columbus Police were able to make the arrest after tips from scrap metal dealers set up through Mayor Teresa Tomlinson's copper theft task force, as well as tips from crimestoppers.
