COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The coroner says a mother and her two daughters died from smoke inhalation following a house fire.
Thirty-two year old Nordalie Douglas and her two daughters, 10 year old Zakoya Bankston and 6 year old Mackayla Gulley, died early Tuesday morning.
Douglas was from a big family in North Carolina originally from Jamaica. Now, the family is heartbroken. They're trying to get Douglas's mother an emergency visa from Jamaica so she can be with the family.
Douglas's sister, Novalyn Douglas, told News Leader 9 in a phone interview that family members are working on setting up a fund for the mother and her daughters to help with final expenses.
The family also says the father of the oldest girl was a Fort Benning soldier stationed in Germany. They say he is on his way back to the United States.
