Muscogee County Marshal's Office holds gun safety training

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- The Muscogee County Marshal's Office is holding a gun safety training session this week.  The class will cover a variety of topics such as how to properly handle, clean and store a gun and Georgia law pertaining to firearms.

You must be 21 years old and pass a background check to attend the course.  The classes start today and go through Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. at the Marshal's Office in the Government Center.  Shooting sessions will be held Saturday, August 27 at the firing range off Schatulga Road behind The Muscogee County Prison.

There are several items you'll need to bring:

  • Gun
  • Holster
  • 200 rounds of Ammunition
  • Lunch (food, drinks & Snacks)
  • Baseball Cap and light clothing (Range)
  • Cost $42.00

According to statistics, one-third of all US households keep a gun and thousands die each year due to accidental death by a firearm.  These types of trainings serve as a good reminder to help keep people safe.

Columbus Police says the victim was taken to the Columbus Piedmont Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
