LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) – A Beauregard man has been arrested for assault of a police officer.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says one of his deputies stopped Chris Grody for not wearing his seatbelt Sunday night. Jones says Grody bailed out of the car and a 15 minute chase began.
Once the deputy caught up with Grody near Alabama Highway 51 and Lee Road 146 the two began fighting and at one point the deputy believes Grody went for his firearm.
That's when Jones called on every available law enforcement officer available for help.
Grody was taken into custody with wounds to his leg and body. The deputy was also injured but was treated and released from the hospital.
Grody, who was already out on probation, is being held without bond.
Sheriff Jones says there was a white car passing through the area at the time of the chase and deputies would like to talk to the driver.
