EDITORIAL:  The American Red Cross is known around the world for their relief efforts.  But you may not have thought about the way they change lives here at home.

The Red Cross isn't just about blood donations, last year right here in Columbus they helped after fires destroyed or damaged 120 homes.  They connected 780 soldiers with their families during emergencies and Red Cross volunteers shuttled 35 thousand patients and visitors to Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Benning.

And now the group that is heroes to so many needs your help.

News Leader Nine's Chief Meteorologist Derek Kinkade has signed on as a Red Cross hero.  Over the next month, we will need your helping giving back to an organization that helps so many others.

To donate go to wtvm.com and click on the green quick links button.   If you donate $25 dollars you will get a t-shirt.

But no matter how much you donate you can feel great about helping those in needs.
