COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A hometown high school rivalry dating back to the 1960'S in Columbus has turned into a family reunion, according to alumni members from Spencer and Carver. The families will meet up for the Heritage Bowl tonight at AJ McClung Memorial Stadium.
Alumni members from both schools say they're looking forward to seeing old faces and reuniting with friends. They also say it's more than a game. "We have a good time, it's really like a reunion. We get together and reminisce about old times," said Annette Flewellen,
President of Spencer Alumni Chapter,Vice President, Jessie Stanley, also added he's expecting the Spencer Greenwaves to come out on top this year.
The Carver Tigers will hit the field without powerhouse, Isaiah Crowell, who helped lead the team to a state championship last season. "We are in a rebuilding process, but that will not stop us from victory," explained Rafael Rose, Publicity Chairman of Carver Alumni Chapter.
The game time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $7.00 at Carver and $10.00 at the gate.
Carver also has a list of activities planned for which proceeds will support programs at Carver. Tomorrow is Carver Day at the Park located at Lonnie Jackson Memorial Park from Wynnton Hill Church.
In preparation for the opening of the new Carver High School, an "All Class Reunion" is planned for next August.
