Wednesday morning fire death connected to burglar bars

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Lee County authorities say Lee County man Melvin Reese died while trying to escape a burning home.

Reese, 58, lived at a home on the corner of Lee Road 397 and Lee Road 815.

When firefighters arrived at his home around 12:40 a.m., it was completely engulfed in flames.

Reese's body was found in the back of the home, near a window.

Investigators say they believe he was trying to escape the fire but was hindered by burglar bars attached to the outside of his windows.  No foul play is suspected in this case.

The fire remains under investigation by the Lee County Coroner's Office, the Alabama State Fire Marshall's office, Lee County Sheriff's office and the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences.
