Lady Cougars Cruise to Victory Against West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Columbus State women's soccer team used an efficient offense to breeze by West Alabama 6-0 on Wednesday night at Tiger Stadium in a non-conference matchup.  The Lady Cougars scored on six of their 12 shots taken on the evening.

CSU improves its mark to 3-1-1 on the year while UWA falls to 2-3.

Columbus State scored four first half goals which included a goal and an assist each by Stephanie Lowery and Emily Husted.  Lowery netted the team's first goal just 5:14 into the match as she buried one home to the bottom left corner of the goal while in the 18-yard box.  Exactly eight minutes later Husted got free on a breakaway setup by Lowery and the junior calmly scored her second goal of the season.

The final two goals of the first half came off the foot of Kiana Nicholson and Amber Wright, respectively.  Each of their goals was their first of their collegiate careers.  Nicholson received a cross in the box from Husted and ripped a shot into the top left corner of the goal in the 19th minute while Wright did the same exact thing to the right-hand corner in the 43rd minute.

Husted put the finishing touches on her stellar night less than three minutes into the second half as she picked up her fifth point of the night with her second goal.  Jackie Ellis capped off the scoring for the evening as she knocked in her first goal of the year on a breakaway with just 11 seconds remaining in the contest.

The Lady Cougars finished the night outshooting West Alabama 12-3 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Mary Mancin picked up the win (3-1-1) playing the first 69 minutes of the match while Katlin Stephens played the final 21 minutes in her first stint of duty of the season.  In all, 22 different ladies played in the game.

Jess Martin (2-3) played the entire match for West Alabama allowing all six goals and picking up one save.  Three different players took a shot for UWA.

Columbus State is back in action this weekend as they take on Nova Southeastern Friday night at Flagler College. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
