Kareem Lane's trial set to begin in November

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The man accused of killing Muscogee County School Superintendent Jim Burns in 1992 will soon be on trial.

Kareem Lane was arrested last year after new DNA evidence linked him to the hunting knife police believed was used to kill Burns.

Tuesday Lane appeared in court for a motions hearing before the trial is set to begin.

"Hopefully we'll try it before the end of the year. But there were some hold-ups in getting that discovery and once that's completed, I'm sure both sides will be ready to proceed with the trial," said Stacy Jackson, Lane's attorney.

There is a gag order in the case -- restricting attorneys and anyone involved with the case from talking specifics with the media.

Kareem Lane's trial is tentatively set to start on November 7th.
