CSU selected to host 2012 Peach Belt Conference baseball and softball tournaments

From: Columbus State University Athletics News

COLUMBUS, GA – The Peach Belt Conference has announced Columbus State University as the host of the 2012 Baseball and Softball Conference Tournaments.  This will mark the second consecutive year in which baseball will host the PBC Tournament and the first time that the Cougar softball team will host the conference tournament since 1996.

The baseball tournament will take place from May 9-13, 2012 at Historic Golden Park in Columbus, Ga.  The top-4 teams in the PBC East and West division will qualify for the double-elimination tournament.

The bracket will have a crossover format in which the top seed in the East division will play the fourth seed in the West division and the second seed in the West will take on the third seeded team in the East.

The host Cougars and rest of the PBC will seek to dethrone 2011 PBC tournament champion, UNC Pembroke.

The Lady Cougars will host the PBC Softball Tournament April 21-22, 2012 at South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Ga.  The top-8 softball teams in the PBC regular season standings will qualify for the single-elimination tournament.

The bracket will match the top finisher in the PBC regular season against the last team to get in, which will be the eight-place team in the standings. The remaining quarterfinal games will pit the No. 2 vs. No. 7, No. 3 vs. No. 6 and No. 4 vs. No. 5 seeds based on the regular season conference standings.

The Lady Saints of North Georgia will look to continue their dominance of the PBC softball tournament as they seek their fourth-consecutive title in 2012.
