Brother of MEA bank robbery suspect arrested

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The brother of a suspected bank robber who was shot to death by a police officer has been arrested.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer is reporting that the gun used in the MEA Federal Credit Union robbery by Alrahiem Tolbert was traced back to his brother, Reginald Smith.

Smith was booked for not having a state tag and is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He pleaded not guilty in Recorder's Court on Saturday.

Columbus investigators are not saying if Smith had anything to do with the armed robbery his brother was allegedly involved in.

Tolbert and Tony Carr, a Fort Benning fire inspector, were killed by police after the bank robbery on September 6th.
