EDITORIAL:  It has been a tough year economically for a lot of people. With unemployment rates still high and poverty levels increasing it is more important than ever for all of us to take care of our neighbors.

A lot of people are just trying to survive and raise their families the best they can. We have a lot of agencies in our area who normally provide folks with a place to sleep and a hot meal every day but that meal is becoming more and more difficult to provide.

The Valley Rescue Mission is just one of those agencies and they say the shelves in their food pantry are bare.

They say the biggest needs are canned meats, canned fruit, noodles, peanut butter and jelly and breakfast foods like grits, oatmeal and rice. The Rescue Mission is not alone in needing food donations.

Find the agency in your neighborhood that provides meals and go give them a generous donation of groceries or just take them a check.

Don't wait till the holiday season, the need is real right now.
