COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) -  It seems little by little residents are starting to see how Columbus is going to be "Ready 2 Raft in 2012" on the Chattahoochee River.

If you walk along the Riverwalk on the Chattahoochee River, you may literally run into a roadblock.

The Riverwalk entrance at the 13th Street Bridge on the Phenix City side is blocked off temporarily. A construction entrance has been built for heavy equipment to come in and begin work.

Batson-Cook Construction company is spear-heading the project, and getting the river ready for Whitewater rafting.

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the river restoration project will be held Thursday morning. The company is calling it "River Blasting" and the event is open to the public.
