Fort Benning dedicates headquarters to medal of honor recipients

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) –  Fort Benning dedicated its newly renovated headquarters for the Maneuver Center of Excellence.

McGinnis-Wickam Hall is now home to the armor and infantry installations.

The ceremony signifies the completion of the BRAC merger with Fort Knox, Kentucky.

The facility is named after two fallen heroes, Specialist Ross McGinnis and Corporal Jerry Wickam.

Their families unveiled plaques honoring their bravery.

"It's a tremendous honor, although I didn't know him, my family speaks of him often.  It's a great honor and have his fellow servicemen come together again," says Michael Wickam.

Wickam was four months old when his father was killed in Vietnam.  Both Jerry Wickam and Ross McGinnis are Medal of Honor recipients.

The building includes more than 500,000 square feet and it cost almost $170 million to renovate the 47 year old building.
