DUI awareness event at CSU

COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) – Students at Columbus State University came together to bring more attention to the dangers of drinking and driving.

The Columbus Police Department provided goggles that gave students the feeling of driving visually impaired.

There were also members from the Solicitor Generals office on hand to let students know how damaging a DUI can be.

"A lot of people think it's all about fun and games. No, when you drink and drive it becomes serious business because you could end up in court facing a judge and a jury, jails time and in some cases, the hospital," says Ben Richardson with Solicitor General's Office.

According Mothers Against Drunk Driving more than 10,000 people die each year because of drunk drivers.

Tuesday's event is the first ever to take place at CSU.
