COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Columbus Police Department is investigating a stabbing that took place early Wednesday morning near the intersection of 12th Avenue and 18th Street. Upon further investigation, police have found there was actually another crime that took place at that time.
Officers responded to 1801 12th Avenue at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival they found 40 year old Albert Wright suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. After questioning witnesses, police arrested 34 year old Jeremy Shehane and charged him with aggravated assault in relation to the crime.
The victim is now in satisfactory condition at the Columbus Regional Medical Center, but once he is released, he will be arrested. Police reports show Wright will be charged with simple battery after wrapping his hands around the neck of a female victim and choking her at the same time and location he was stabbed. The victim in that crime refused to be taken to the Medical Center for treatment.
Jeremy Shehane appeared in Recorder's Court Thursday morning where he entered a plea of not guilty to possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond at the Muscogee County Jail.
Albert Wright has not yet been discharged from the Medical Center.
