Teen struck by van, driver turns self in

TROUP COUNTY, GA (WTVM) – Troup County officials tell us a teen was struck while riding his bike Thursday evening. The driver who struck him drove off.

Friday, that driver turned himself in to Troup County Jail after a search for his vehicle was announced to the public.

James Wells, 70, of Woodbury, GA admits he is the driver who struck the teen on Stovall Road and South Glenn Road in rural Troup County.

The young person was struck by a white van around 5:30 p.m. and was flown by helicopter to Atlanta for treatment. His condition is not known at this time.

Georgia State Patrol has charged Wells with hit and run, a felony.

Authorities tell us he could face additional charges.

Wells is currently being held at the Troup County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
