MILITARY MATTERS: Movie Night -, GA News Weather & Sports

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -    Most folks will tell you that going to the movies is fun, and even better when it's free.

That's exactly what families at Fort Benning have been able to enjoy with the monthly Movies Under the Stars series at Wetherby Field.

The outdoor films have been a hit says Noelle Phillips, with the Directorate of Family and Welfare, Morale and Recreation.  "We started them back in 2009 in the Spring, and it grew in popularity. Now we do a Spring and Fall series every year."

Hundreds of people turned out for "X-Men: First Class", the final showing in the Fall series of Movies Under the Stars.

SSG Patrick Cole says he brought his family because word of mouth. "A buddy of mine came over here one time, and he says it was kind of fun and interesting. So we all came over here this time."

LaQuetta Gray says Fort Benning's MWR should be commended for bringing folks together. "It means a lot, especially to the soldiers and family. You know, we want family time, so it's great, great opportunity. I'm glad they did it."

What's a movie without snacks? Not only is popcorn available, but hotdogs and funnel cakes are too. And each person gets a free t-shirt with their bag of popcorn.

Sadly, the next movie isn't until April.
