Columbus elementary school principal found dead

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – An elementary school principal was found dead Tuesday morning.

Carolyn Ambrose, principal of Waddell Elementary School in Columbus, was found unresponsive at her home.

Ambrose, 56, was pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m. at the Medical Center.

Officials tell us it appears she may have died of cardiac arrest. Her body will not be sent to the state crime lab for an official autopsy because no foul play is suspected.

The following is a statement from, Valerie Fuller, Director of Communications at the Muscogee County School District:

"It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the loss of Ms. Carolyn Ambrose, Principal of Waddell Elementary.  We received notice that she passed this morning at the Columbus Medical Center.  We extend our thoughts, prayers, and support to the family and friends of Ms. Ambrose.

The MCSD Crisis team of counselors, psychologists, and administrators are onsite in support of students and staff. We will keep you informed on arrangements or services in remembrance of Ms. Carolyn Ambrose."

Funeral services for Ambrose will be held on Monday, October 17th at 11:00 a.m. at the Greater St. Mark A.M.E. Church on 2nd Avenue in Columbus.

Funeral arrangements are being made at Progressive Funeral Home on St. Mary's Road. Visitation at the funeral home will be this Sunday, October 16 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
