Police arrest man connected to $120K copper theft

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus police say they have made an arrest in connection with tens of thousands of dollars worth of copper recently stolen from the Muscogee County School District.

Tracy McMillan, 53, was arrested Wednesday by the department's burglary and theft unit. Investigators tell us McMillan has been arrested before for the same thefts almost two months ago.

This week, school officials reported more than $120,000 in copper wire had been stolen from a warehouse.  About 40 boxes of solid copper wire, valued at $12,000, were taken.

It is believed this recent round of thefts happened between October 3rd and October 14th.

Investigators add, over a span of a year, more than 30 similar thefts were committed in the same area.
