Commandant to be promoted to brigadier general on post

FORT BENNING, GA - The commandant of the U.S. Army Armor School, Col. Thomas S. James, will be promoted to brigadier general on October 21 at McGinnis-Wickam Hall.

James was commissioned as a second lieutenant of Armor in May 1985, after graduating from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. A veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm and several deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, James assumed responsibility as the commandant of the U.S. Armor School here on June 28, 2011 after having served as the Deputy Commanding General for Maneuver, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

James has commanded armor units at the company, battalion and brigade levels and has attended Command and General Staff College, Advanced Military Studies at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. and the National War College, Fort McNair, Washington, DC.

His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the Citadel, a Master's Degree in Military Art and Science from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, and a Master's of Science in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University, Fort McNair.
