Fort Benning Armor School Commandant promoted to Brigadier General

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) – The Army's Armor School new Commandant and Chief of Armor Colonel Thomas James received high honors at Fort Benning Friday as a one-star brigadier general.

"Those that I served with on the field of battle, either killed or severely wounded," says Gen. James. "All of that comes back to me on this day because I serve in their honor."

General James made a commitment to serve his country 27 years ago.   It was a very special day for the James family, he and his wife along with their two sons and daughter as well as for the Maneuver Center of Excellence.

"It's great news for the Army. This is a tremendous soldier and family man. He has contributed so much many deployments, Desert Storm, Iraq. We wouldn't have had the successes in Iraq had it not been for his efforts," says Col. Walter Piatt with Fort Benning.

Both Col. Piatt and Gen. James will work closely together training two forces as one.

"The real challenges are bringing people together and show them how we're better now than we were when we were apart."

Both men say they're up for the challenge as they train their teams as one force, one fight.
