Dispute among neighbors leads to Valley man's death

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) – A Valley man died early Sunday morning after what appears to be an ongoing dispute among neighbors.

Lee County Sheriff's deputies responded to an alleged assault on Lee Road 367 in the Lake Harding area around 9 am and found 58-year-old Durward Day with no signs of life.

Witnesses told authorities a man and his wife were driving down Lee Road 367 when they saw Day on the side of the road beside his vehicle with a shotgun.

Day allegedly fired a shot into the couple's car. The couple fled to their home as Day allegedly pursued them.  Additional shots were fired in the pursuit.  Day was then struck by the couple's vehicle causing his death.

Day's body has been transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.

The couple's name is not being releases because they have not been arrested.
