Event to allow people to turn in unused pills

ATLANTA (AP) - Local, state and federal law enforcement officials are teaming up to give the public a chance to get potentially dangerous prescription drugs out of their homes.

The third National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is set for Saturday. People can drop off their expired, unused and unwanted pills across the country free of charge, no questions asked.

To find a collection site, visit the federal Drug Enforcement Administration's website, click the "Got Drugs?" banner, which links to a database where a zip code can be entered.

The DEA says dropping off unused drugs to be destroyed can help prevent drug abuse and theft.

In the two previous drug take-back days, people turned in more than 309 tons of pills at more than 5,300 sites across the country.
