Editorial: AYP and Superintendent of the Year

EDITORIAL:  After a batch of bad news on the education front we have some good news to report. Ten more Muscogee County schools appear headed for passing AYP.

When the preliminary report came out, Muscogee County was near the bottom of the worst performing districts in the state with only 33-percent of the schools meeting AYP standards.

It's now up to 51-percent, still below the state average but nonetheless good news.

This positive news gives parents, teachers, and school administrators hope that their efforts "are" paying off. And Phenix City schools can boast having the top school administrator in the state with the naming of Larry Dichiara as Alabama School Superintendent of the Year.  By all accounts it is a great honor for a great guy and excellent administrator.

But in typical fashion Larry spread the credit around saying, "I have a lot of quality people who make me look good every day." I'm sure that's true.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the Phenix City schools for a job well done.
