Cherri Dawson search: Tests to determine if remains are human

Posted: Updated:
TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

Investigators are trying to determine if a massive search for a missing pregnant woman from Auburn has come to a tragic end.

Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett confirms remains have been found along Walker Road, a partially unpaved road near the Camp Hill community.

Police will not say if they believe the remains belong to Cherri Dawson, a missing  Auburn woman who is five months pregnant.

Forensic tests will determine if the remains are human.

Investigators hope to have results from those tests before the end of this week.

A team of investigators scoured the area, trying to pick up any evidence that may be linked to the remains.

Investigators are not commenting on a possible connection to the missing pregnant woman, Cherri Dawson.

Dawson was reported missing from Auburn more than two weeks ago. Her burned car was found in Chambers County, a day after she was last seen by her family.

News Leader 9 is following this story. We'll have the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
