Siblings charged with murder, victim identified

AMERICUS, GA (WTVM) – Three people in Sumter County are charged with the murder of a Hispanic man.

Police say two of the suspects are juveniles and all three are related. 

The victim, 29-year-old Samuel Chavez, was found dead Saturday night on the side of Lamar Road in Sumter County. 

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office tells us Kenyota Maria Peterson, 20, is facing murder charges in connection with this case. 

In addition, Adam Peterson and Clarence Coleman have been charged as adults and are currently detained at a juvenile detention facility. 

Investigators have not released any information about how Chavez died, but his body has been sent to the crime lab for an autopsy. 

Chavez is a Honduran native.
