Governor Bentley attended two groundbreaking ceremonies in Lee County

AUBURN, GA (WXTX) – Governor Robert Bentley traveled to Lee County for not one but two major groundbreakings.

First, in Opelika the Governor helped break ground on Pharmavite's 330,000 square foot facility that will bring 280 new jobs to the area.  Pharmavite is a leading manufacturer of high quality vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements.

"We hope to employ 280 workers when our facility opens late next year, and it will represent an investment of $74 million," says Mark Walsh, Chief Operating Officer at Pharmavite.

Governor Bentley praised Alabama's work force for the economic announcement.

Governor Bentley says, "This is the type of company we want to come to Alabama, I told them this morning and I promised them they will have the best workers in any state of the Country."

Then Gov. Bentley went to Auburn, where GE Aviation broke ground on its new jet engine components manufacturing facility.

The 300,000 square foot facility will be up and running at the end of 2012 and employ close to 400 new workers.  GE Aviation officials say they are excited to draw talent from Alabama's extensive aerospace engineering programs, to help fuel their missions.

"This is one of the most forward thinking business friendly communities we surveyed when trying to decide where to locate this facility in terms of location to two major universities and the two year college systems it's going to provide great talent for our employees that's second to none," says Colleen Athans, GE Aviation vice president and general manager.

Close to 500 new jobs will be coming to the area, so make sure to stay tuned to WXTX.com and FOX 54 for job recruitment opportunities with both Pharmavite and GE Aviation.
