Authorities revealed in a press conference Tuesday that an arrest has been made in connection with the case of a missing pregnant woman.
Keith Lemar Ware, 30, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the case of Cherri Dawson.
Dawson, 31, went missing on Saturday, October 8. Her car was discovered burned to its metal frame on a rural road in Chambers County.
More than 200 officers joined in the search for Dawson since her disappearance.
Last week, remains were found along Walker Road, a partially unpaved road in the Camp Hill Community of Tallapoosa County. And investigators revealed Tuesday afternoon they believe the remains found are Dawson's.
Dawson's family says she was 5 months pregnant with a baby girl the last day they saw her. She also has a 7-year-old son who was with his father at this time.
Investigators believe Ware is Dawson's boyfriend and father to the child she was carrying. It is not clear if he will face additional charges for Dawson's unborn child. Alabama law recognizes an unborn baby as a person for state laws dealing with murder.
"As you can imagine, they took it very hard as anyone would...We're taking it hard. You're looking at over 100 years of law enforcement experience right here today, and I think Sheriff Abbett would probably tell you the same thing: You never get used to investigating the death of a mother and child," said Chief Tommy Dawson with Auburn Police Department.
Meanwhile, Ware is being held without bond at the Tallapoosa County Jail.
The case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Department, Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Office and the Chambers County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators are not releasing what they believe is the motive in Dawson's death.
