GA woman loses $500 in iPad 2 scam

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - An Augusta woman told authorities she was bilked out of $500 by a man who claimed to sell her pricy electronics in the parking lot of a mall.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office said Portia Tanksley gave a man the money in the Augusta Mall parking lot on Thursday to buy an iPad 2 and a netbook computer and was given a hefty box in return.

Police told the Augusta Chronicle Tanksley opened the box and found only a three ring binder and a piece of tile. By that time, the unknown man had fled the scene.
