Brown water worries some Columbus residents

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Steven Fisher and his roommate say they've been dealing with brown discolored water for two weeks.  While it doesn't look too bad now, Fisher says just a few days ago the water coming out of his faucet, toilet and bath tub was disgusting.

"It was brown, it looked like urine - like someone had already used the facilities before, even after you flush it each time. The color of it made it look to the point where I didn't think it was drinkable," said Steven.

Steven says he was worried about their safety, so he called Columbus Water Works.

A crew from the Columbus Water Works tested the water at Fisher's house off Hamilton Road in Columbus.

Supervisors at the Columbus Water Works say a valve problem allowed rust to get in the pipes and although it looked pretty bad the water was safe to drink.

Water Works supervisors say that people who are experiencing problems should let their cold water run 5 to 10 minutes. If they are still seeing problems, then they should call the Columbus Water Works customer service at (706) 649-3400.
