Columbus home prices dip, trend to continue

There is bad news for those wanting to sell a home in the Fountain City.

New data out this week shows home prices in Columbus depreciating another 3.4% percent in the month of September, compared to the same period last year.

Overall, Georgia has the fifth worst rate of depreciation in the country, with prices falling statewide more than 7%.

Alabama hasn't fared much better, coming in with the 13th worst rate for home depreciation for the month of September.

Nationally, home prices have declined by 4.1% in September of 2011 compared to September 2010.  Over a month to month basis home prices have fell by 1.1%, the second consecutive monthly decline.

Experts predict, even with the low interests rates, home prices will continue to decline throughout the winter.
