Auburn to honor Pat Sullivan before Samford game

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn will honor Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Pat Sullivan before the Nov. 19 game against Sullivan's Samford Bulldogs.

Sullivan won the 1971 Heisman for the Tigers and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. The ceremony will happen 25 minutes before Auburn and Samford kick off and will include former teammates.

It's to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Sullivan winning the Heisman.

He says the honor "is very humbling." Sullivan says his wife Jean and their children and grandchildren will attend the game.

Sullivan was a two-time All-American and the 1971 Southeastern Conference player of the year at Auburn. He was responsible for a then-NCAA record 71 touchdowns in his career, including 53 passing.

Sullivan is in his fifth season as Samford's coach.
